TOTALLY AMAZING K-POP: BEST OF 2011

While there are a lot of things we don’t know heading into the new year, one thing I can tell you for sure is that we’re living in the Golden Age of K-Pop. In years to come we’ll look back at this time (from around 2009 to, oh, right about now) as one of *the* most exciting times in pop history. 2011 was an interesting year in that K-Pop finally and truly had its first taste of international fame. Sure, in past years there were your BoA’s and your Wonder Girls, the ones who helped pave the way; but this year it seemed K-Pop became legitimate, at least in the online world, as it was increasingly apparent that this small country in the far east was, in fact, producing some of the world’s most exciting music at a far more reliable rate than anywhere else on planet earth.

There’s already lots of plans and talks of US and European debuts this year, and while that’s all quite exciting, the ball is now in their court. Whether or not the Koreans can turn online hype into real world success will be one of the biggest stories of 2012.
